RohaCell Online

RohaSell-on-line is a trading name for Severn Valley Sailplanes, an established business that for many years has been working with Evonik's RohaCell® material in various ways. Over the years we have use the material in sandwich cores, thermoformed it and machined it on both small and large scale CNC routers. RohaCell® has been a major part of our business for the best part of 10 years and we therefore feel that we know the material fairly well.

In 2010 we set up RohaSell-on-line to supply RohaCell material to users in the UK frustrated by the long lead-times and lack of availability. Within the business we consume a fair bit of RohaCell, so holding stock for others makes a lot of sense.

Our primary business is machining core materials like RohaCell, Airex and Diab. In fact we see ourselves as specialist in this area and have a lot of experience making complex parts for customers who include Formula 1 teams and major airline cabin interior suppliers as we hold AS9100 acreditation.

To feed our own facilities we hold a wide range of RohaCell material from the basics like IG-F-31 through to IG-F-110 to the more exotic like RohaCell WF110 and WF110-HT. More often than not we have the material that is specified, allowing us to make parts quickly and without the fuss of having to wait for an overseas delivery.

On the other hand we carry in excess of £50,000 of RohaCell sheet material ready for dispatch to customers on a next day service if required and to make life even easier we can cut the sheet down to as small as 620 x 620 mm on most materials so you only have to buy what you need. With regular restocking from Germany long lead-times times are a thing of the past

RohaCell Standard Sheet Sizes
2500 x 1250 mm 2500 x 1250
1250 x 1250 mm 1250 x 1250

We carry in stock a range of standard size sheets of RohaCell® IG range. This is the most commonly used version of RohaCell®. In addition to this range of materials we are able to cut and sand to size almost any thickness you may need at an extra cost.

Other RohaCell® products can be obtained on a lead-time of 4 to 8 weeks depending on material specification. On some occasions we may have off-cuts of materials left over from projects we are working on and these can be machined to size for you. In this case please contact our sales team for more information.

Below is a summary of the products manufactured under the RohaCell® brand name and a brief description of the characteristics and suggested usage. If you are unsure about any aspect of the materials specification or suitability for a given application we can in general advise. Data sheets can be downloaded following the links at the end of each product group or alternatively we can supply a CD covering the entire product range on request.

RohaCell® IG Range

The industrial grade of RohaCell® is the back bone of the range and is used for applications such as bicycles wheels, cross country skis motor sport applications automotive panels and watercraft. It has also been used successfully for CT and X-Ray tables, Rotor-blades in wind energy applications. It is an extremely versatile material that machines well. RohaCell® IG is particularly suitable for pre-preg processing as well as traditional wet-lay, RTM and Resin infusion processing. It will withstand processing temperatures up to 130° C and pressures of 0.3 MPa (43.5 psi)

RohaCell® IG-F Range

The F grade or Fine grade of the IG material has a finer cell structure and because of this smaller cell it takes up less resin at the surface were the cut have an open structure due to cutting. This make the IG-F range ideal for Infusion and RTM processing. All other thermal and mechanical properties remain as per the standard IG material.

RohaCell® HF Range

The HF range has an extremely low dielectric constant and is particularly favourable to the transmission of high frequency radio waves. This material has been designed for antenna applications be it mobile phones or large radar applications. The cell size is extremely fine and this ensures minimal resin uptake. RohaCell® HF can also be used for mammography plates and collimators in x-ray and nuclear physics applications. Processing can be by hand lay-up, pre-preg, vacuum infusion with pressures up to 0.3 MPa (43.5 psi) and 130°C.

RohaCell® WF Range

The WF range has been designed primarily for aerospace applications and conforms the usual industry requirements such as MIL and CMS specifications. It has been used for structural components on main aircraft projects such as the Boeing Delta II,II and IV rockets and pressure bulkheads in Airbus A380 and A340. This structural foam is also suitable for helicopter applications, for example, in the main and tail rotor blades, as well as in fuselage panels; it is used by Eurocopter, Bell, Westland, and Sikorsky, among others. Processing by autoclave or resin infusion at pressures up to 0.7 MPa (100psi) and temperatures up to 130°C. With suitable heat treatment RohaCell® WF can tolerate curing temperatures of 180°C at a pressure of 0.7 MPa (100 psi). The minimal material properties are mentioned in the “Werkstoffleistungsblatt WL 5.1461” of DIN.

RohaCell® Rima Range

The Rima range has been specifically designed to ensure the minimum possible uptake of resin, this is approximately 50g/m² making finished much lighter when compared to other foam systems. The thermal and mechanical properties are very similar to those of RohaCell®WF and RohaCell®Rist materials. With its extremely fine cell size RohaCell® Rima has been used for composite aerospace seating products, sports equipment and automotive applications. It is extremely suitable for vacuum infusion and RTM processing where its fine cell structure is and advantage. Processing by autoclave or resin infusion at pressures up to 0.7 MPa (100psi) and temperatures up to 130°C. With suitable heat treatment RohaCell® WF can tolerate curing temperatures of 180°C at a pressure of 0.7 MPa (100 psi).

RohaCell® Rist Range

The Rist range has been specifically designed for use in structural applications. The thermal and mechanical properties are very similar to those of RohaCell®WF and RohaCell®Rima materials. Its cell size, however, represents an optimal compromise between low resin uptake — about 50% less than for RohaCell® WF — and satisfactory bonding of the facings to the foam core.
