Gel Batteries Fight Back We all know that the amount of kit in our cockpits is increasing exponential and as a result our poor old batteries are having a hard time. With this in mind we have recently taken time out to do some research and have found that while the faith full 12 volt 7aH gel battery is great for security purposes we are pushing them to the limits with the demand of modern cockpit power drain. However what we have found is that our friendly golfing buddies have taken the lead in this market and manufacturers now produce batteries that will take this sort of punishment and fight back. As a result we now stock alongside the normal Yuasa and branded gel batteries a range of Deep Discharge gel batteries. These new batteries are a direct replacement for all 12 v 7ah batteries. I would recommend that pilots who have a total quiescent current drain greater than 500 ma use these batteries. (as a guide GPS/Logger/PDA will draw 200 ma, vario up to 300ma and radio 200 ma in receive). Click here for more information GRP Repair and Damage Inspection Course We will be running a Composite Glider Inspection and Repair course in the autumn of this year. Whilst primarily aimed at inspectors we can accept owners and currently have several places left to fill. The course will cover inspection techniques and damage assessment. In addition a large part of the course will be workshop based and will take a hands on approach to the techniques used to repair modern composite gliders.
